Do I need a regular maintenance contract?
After a system has been installed it should be inspected and serviced at regular intervals by Tamar Security to ensure it continues to function correctly. As a NACOSS registered company this also ensures a 4 hour response from one of our engineers at any time.

What is a 'Monitored' alarm?
Monitored alarm systems are linked via a telephone line to a monitoring station, which is manned 24 hours a day. In the event of an activation the monitoring station will contact the local Police force. A monitored alarm system can also communicate other signals, such as Fire or medical help and assistance.

Are Monitored alarm systems more complicated to use?
Monitored system are no more complicated to use than a bells only system. Most use a keypad with your own PIN number and you can even get tags and key fobs that will set and unset your system by simply offering them up to the key pad.

What does a 'bells-only' alarm system mean?
A bells only alarm is when the alarm is activated it will sound an external sounder, which are normally of a siren type. This type of system relies upon a neighbour to investigate and call the emergency services if necessary.

What is a Digital Communicator?
A digital communicator is the telephone device that is connected to the alarm system, which will signal a message to the monitoring station when the alarm is activated.


What is BT RedCare?
BT RedCare is a special type of monitoring that has its telephone lines monitored, so in the event of a line being cut it will inform the central monitoring station.

What is a Speech Dialler?
A speech dialler is a piece of telephone equipment which is connected to your alarm system. It can ring up to 4 individual programmed telephone numbers and notify them that your alarm system has activated and can even ring your mobile and be set to ring until the call is acknowledged.

What is a URN?
URN stands for a Unique Reference Number that clearly identifies your property. This number is issued by the local Police force on receipt of an application from an alarm company. The central station when passing an alarm activation to the Police uses this number.
