Intruder Alarm Systems
How often do burglaries occur in the UK?
Every minute 3 UK properties are burgled. Statistically, if you've
been burgled once, the chances are you'll be done again unless you
act to prevent them coming back. Millions of pounds worth of possessions
are stolen, but it is often the emotional upset to the homeowner
and their family that is left behind following a burglary. Protecting
your property is therefore important, but all to often an alarm
system is not fitted until after the burglary has taken place.
How do I find the best system for me?
There are four basic steps to follow when choosing an intruder alarm,
namely, selection of a reputable company, design, installation and
ongoing maintenance.
Why choose Tamar Security?
Choosing a reputable company to design, install and maintain your
system is vital, and can often be a minefield for the property owner.
You should therefore look for an alarm company that is registered
by the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS).Tamar
Security is registered by NACOSS and we are subject to regular audits
to ensure we meet the highest of industry standards.
Are all burglar alarm systems the same?
A system will be designed to suit each individual property and its
occupants. Tamar Security survey your property prior to any installation.
Do I need a regular maintenance contract?
After a system has been installed it should be inspected and serviced
at regular intervals by Tamar Security to ensure it continues to
function correctly. As a NACOSS registered company this also ensures
a 4 hour response from one of our engineers at any time.
What is a 'Monitored' alarm?
Monitored alarm systems are linked via a telephone line to a monitoring
station, which is manned 24 hours a day. In the event of an activation
the monitoring station will contact the local Police force. A monitored
alarm system can also communicate other signals, such as Fire or
medical help and assistance.
Are Monitored alarm systems more complicated to use?
Monitored system are no more complicated to use than a bells only
system. Most use a keypad with your own PIN number and you can even
get tags and key fobs that will set and unset your system by simply
offering them up to the key pad.
What does a 'bells-only' alarm system mean?
A bells only alarm is when the alarm is activated it will sound
an external sounder, which are normally of a siren type. This type
of system relies upon a neighbour to investigate and call the emergency
services if necessary.
What is a Digital Communicator?
A digital communicator is the telephone device that is connected
to the alarm system, which will signal a message to the monitoring
station when the alarm is activated.
What is BT RedCare?
BT RedCare is a special type of monitoring that has its telephone
lines monitored, so in the event of a line being cut it will inform
the central monitoring station.
What is a Speech Dialler?
A speech dialler is a piece of telephone equipment which is connected
to your alarm system. It can ring up to 4 individual programmed
telephone numbers and notify them that your alarm system has activated
and can even ring your mobile and be set to ring until the call
is acknowledged.
What is a URN?
URN stands for a Unique Reference Number that clearly identifies
your property. This number is issued by the local Police force on
receipt of an application from an alarm company. The central station
when passing an alarm activation to the Police uses this number.
